We're an early stage start-up (by the time you'd start in the summer we'll still be less than a year old!) looking to make some waves in access control (securing buildings using technology). Right now we're still inventing and building exactly how we're going to revolutionise the industry, and in order to help us deliver a game-changing product we need to bring the right people on board. We're strong believers in the value of recruiting the best graduates from university and training them up to be top quality engineers, and this summer we're looking to expand our software engineering team from four engineers by adding a new graduate to the mix.

Although still young as a company, members of the team and investors have been working together for over fifteen years, successfully building companies worth a total of around a billion dollars. We believe in acting like a proper business towards our employees: paying decent salaries with all the standard benefits; having a real office; investing in our training, growth, and development. On top of this, we offer all employees a share in the business so that if the company succeeds, everyone benefits. We are already fully funded for at least our first couple of years, so the biggest risk you'll be taking is the risk that you might actually achieve something!

At the moment we're building prototypes, mostly writing Python, C, and TypeScript, but the actual technologies we use could and probably will change in the coming months. We're embracing the cloud, and doing our very best to not write any boring code - using some of the most exciting open source projects and third party services where the problems we are solving aren't new, freeing our time to work on those things which will actually make our products great. We're not looking for a graduate with any specific experience of the tools and technologies we're using so far, but instead value someone who can quickly learn and understand whatever we throw at them.

As a team we range between mid 20s to mid 50s, from a variety of backgrounds, but all share the belief that the best way to really change things is through starting something ourselves, and the drive to actually do it. If you are the sort of person who won't be happy with an anonymous job in a multinational, but wants a role where you can immediately make a significant impact in a company, in a company which wants to make an impact in the world, we'd like to hear from you.

We're open to candidates from all backgrounds, but we're only a small company so can't interview everyone. To maximise your chance of coming through to our interview, it will help if you not only have the qualities below, but also include evidence of this in your CV so we actually know!

On course for a good degree
Excellent A levels (or equivalent)
Studying a STEM (science, technology, engineering, or maths) subject - or with a good story why if you're studying something else, you have the aptitude for a programming role
Interested in solving problems, especially using computers
Able to take a problem away and motivate yourself to solve it without supervision. But...
Not afraid to ask questions and seek help when needed
Good at taking complicated problems and breaking them down into solvable chunks

Our interview process will start by asking you to do a simple programming test (typically taking around an hour, but not timed), which will give something for us to discuss in a first round screening interview over video, and if that goes well it'll be followed up with three further interviews with our senior engineers, and the chance to meet other team members such as the CEO or product manager. This second round could be over video, but if possible we'd like to invite you to our office so we can get to know each other in person, probably over lunch! In the interview we'll give you a variety of problem solving questions to see if you have what it takes, but very much focusing on potential and ability to think, not on knowledge - we'll teach you (or expect you to teach yourself) what you need to know to do the job, so we'll be ensuring you can learn.
