About Yearbook Machine

Yearbook Machine is an online platform used by groups all around the world to create printed yearbooks.

Built by a small team of designers and developers based in London, we have a strong focus on product and engineering quality. Our system is used by everyone from small groups of friends to top-tier universities, and we take pride in providing a service that delights.

We are now looking for a talented Full Stack Engineer to work on our core product. We have a lot of exciting new developments in the works, and need good people to help us make our world-class system even better.

About the role

As a Full Stack Engineer, your remit will be wide and varied. You’ll be involved in creating new features, iterating on existing ones, automating infrastructure, developing internal best practices, working on our page rendering technology and everything else involved in maintaining and improving our systems.

We achieve this breadth of skills by working on a project basis, where we will focus on one particular area for a few weeks or months, taking the time to get to the heart of the problem and finish things to a high standard before moving on to the next issue.

This variety means that we are always learning, and no two weeks are ever the same. It also means that we get a significant sense of ownership over our product, being able to see how all the parts fit together, and how improving things in one area can have positive effects across the whole company.

You should have experience with at least some of the technologies and skills listed below. But more importantly, you should be someone who is a fast learner, with a genuine appetite for problem solving and self-improvement.

  • At least 3 years experience working with Javascript and PHP – ideally using React and Symfony.

  • HTML and CSS (LESS), with an eye for design

  • MySQL and Redis.

  • Strong structured problem solving and debugging skills.

  • Automated unit and integration testing.

  • Linux server administration and DevOps

Why Yearbook Machine?

Friendly team, good working culture: Our team are friendly and open, caring less about where an idea came from than what the right course of action is. We encourage everyone to give their opinions and try to act in consideration of all stakeholders, with the aim of being a company that is not just financially successful, but also good.

Small and independently successful: Yearbook Machine is small, independent and profitable, having never taken any VC investment. This means that we can focus on long-term value rather than growth at all costs, and also that we can keep a healthy work-life balance.

Benefits: We provide private healthcare for all of our employees, discounted gym memberships, a generous pension and 33 days of paid holiday per year.
