Cattle ranchers need quality software to accompany them in their daily tasks. Redbook offers a novel software solution to be the ultimate cattle rancher business tool.

What you’ll do

Build a cloud-based SaaS platform for cattle ranchers from scratch. Implement a backend API using Node.js, and a responsive frontend using React. This single-page web app will be used by ranchers on the field to help them in their daily tasks attending to the herd (typically from a mobile device / tablet), taking care of finances, and managing their business.

The system is multi-tenant and hosted on the cloud and is backed by PostgreSQL. You will build a Node.js API and implement a set of features for ranchers to use in their daily operations. You will work in close collaboration with a designer to produce a rancher-friendly web experience. You will also implement strategies around limited data connectivity on the ranch. You will be part of the original launch of the product.

You’ll work as part of a team of 3 software engineers, plus the CTO who also has a software engineer background (with 13 years of experience including 6 years at Stack Overflow). You will own large parts of the codebase, have autonomy to make technical decisions, and have significant impact on the technical design of the platform.

During the first 4 months, you'll implement the product features and get ready for the official product launch. Within 6 months you'll receive feedback from real customers and you'll update the product to fit the user needs even more closely. Within 9 months you'll start expanding the feature set to provide extended functionality into new areas of the cattle rancher business. Within 12 months you'll welcome new engineers in the team and you'll have the opportunity to help mentor them.

This is a remote position. At this time we're considering applicants located in the U.S.

Your qualifications

• 5+ years of professional software development

• Solid track record of shipping software to real users

• Ability to work autonomously

• Evidence of deep technical knowledge (examples include: performance optimization, DB query optimization, etc)

• Good communication skills

• Proactivity

• Ability to work on a team

• Ability to work in a distributed setting with both synchronous and asynchronous communication
