Role: Front End Developer

Reports To: Software Development Manager

Location: Remote, Ventura Supported

As a Front End Developer within the Patagonia Digital Technology team, this position focuses on thoughtful analysis and creative thinking in anticipating user and business needs when implementing digital experiences, content and commerce functionality. This Front End Developer role will collaborate closely with design, development and business teams in all phases of design and development, from inception to delivery and optimization. Your passion for the modern web and user experience will empower you to identify and develop creative and intuitive UI solutions, transform designs into deliverable production code while continually optimizing.

What You’ll Do

  • Be a valuable contributor to the ongoing implementation and optimization of our digital web experience.

  • Work closely with Design, Project Management and Development teams to discover, design, develop and deliver complex features and functionality.

  • Assist with platform and front-end performance optimization.

  • Research and evaluate the applicability of emerging technologies and design patterns such as HTML5, CSS3, Middleware Pattern, Website Optimization, Sustainable Web Design, Responsive & Mobile First Design.

  • Research and recommend improvements to existing code base, build tools and delivery systems.

Experience You Bring

  • College Degree or equivalent experience required

  • 5+ years professional front end development experience

  • Advanced understanding of Object-Oriented JavaScript, ES6, Node.js, AJAX, XML, JSON, jQuery, HTML, SCSS/CSS, CSS Layout techniques (Grid/Flexbox), progressive loading concepts, Bootstrap

  • Experience with build technologies such as Webpack, Gulp, Grunt, ESLint

  • Experience in building user interfaces from wireframes and designs and be able to deploy applications in a cross-platform/cross-browser environment.

  • Experience in defining, developing and maintaining design systems

  • Experience in design tools such as Sketch, Figma, Invision, Adobe XD or similar.

  • Well-versed in usability, web accessibility and technical SEO best practices.

  • Understanding of browser compatibility and screen limitations.

  • Knowledge and demonstrated capacity in responsive design/mobile first development and touch input.

  • Experience integrating with server-side code to produce dynamic pages

  • Working knowledge of code repository best practices and use.

  • SDLC knowledge and Agile software development methodologies.

  • Must be physically located in the United States.

  • Must be a US Citizen or legally eligible to work in the US without requiring sponsorship

Nice to Have But Not Necessary

  • Experience with ecommerce and cloud-based web platforms.

  • Experience with content management systems (CMS).

  • Strong interest in environmental and social issues.

  • Enjoys being outside.

Pay range: $78,670 - $131,044

Hiring range: $100,000 - $125,000

At Patagonia, pay ranges are assigned to a job based on the location specific market median of similar jobs according to 3rd party salary benchmark surveys. Individual pay within that range can vary for several reasons including skills/capabilities, experience, and available budget.
