Help us to increase the number of successful companies in the world!

PostHog is an open-source product analytics platform. We provide product-led teams with everything they need to understand user behaviour, including funnels, session recordings, user paths, multivariate testing and more. PostHog can be deployed to the cloud, or self-hosted on existing infrastructure, removing the need to send data externally.

PostHog was created as an open source project during Y Combinator's W20 cohort and had the most successful B2B software launch on HackerNews since 2012 - with a product that was just 4 weeks old. Since then, more than 10,000 companies have installed the platform, we've had huge success with our paid upgrades, and we have raised $27m from some of the world's top investors, and have shown strong product-led growth - 97% driven by word of mouth.

Why we're hiring for this role

We have a community of over 30k+ developers using PostHog, mostly using our open source or paid products, plus a 2,500+ Slack community and 8,000+ GitHub stars. And all of these numbers are going up, fast.

Our current company strategy is to Nail Self Serve. Our community have a lot of support questions. You'll be working on new projects to improve our docs, support and website products (which will also be turned into open source projects themselves)!

For example, we released Squeak! as a way of building best in class documentation. These are the sorts of things you'd be building into it, subject to your input of course.

What you'd be doing
  • Growth hacking to make our docs and support self-service. We recently shipped our website Q&A tool - Squeak! - and have a whole list of internal tools we want to productize.
  • Open sourcing any tools you build that others could use. This is valuable and helps us grow awareness.
  • A ton of autonomy in a small and extremely agile team, shipping multiple new products a year.
  • Decide on and create features to the website that enable a community to grow around it.
Values
  • We are open source - building a huge community around a free-for-life product is key to PostHog's strategy.
  • We aim to become the most transparent company, ever. In order to enable teams to make great decisions, we share as much information as we can. In our public handbook everyone can read about our roadmap, how we pay (or even let go of) people, what our strategy is, and who we have raised money from. We also have regular team-wide feedback sessions, where we share honest feedback with each other. We share fundraising updates mid-process, and board slides internally too.
  • Working autonomously and maximizing impact - we don’t tell anyone what to do, everyone chooses what to work on next based on what is going to have the biggest impact on our customers.
  • Solve big problems - we haven't built our defining feature yet. We are all about acting fast, innovating and iterating.
  • We are an all remote company, which allows us to hire amazing people from all over the world, and foster an inclusive culture.
Who we need
  • Experience with relevant frontend technologies - we use HTML/Sass (of course), Tailwind, Gatsby, Next.js, and React
  • Broader full stack experience. Whilst this isn't a backend role, experience with databases and building entire applications / features that include front and backend is important - you need to be able to suggest the right architecture that we use
  • Interest and/or experience contributing to or building tools that enable communities to be more successful
  • Strong communication skills, especially with users. We document everything, most of it publicly.
  • You move very fast, have a strong bias to action and you don’t shy away from stepping on toes.
  • Past experience working in a growing startup wearing multiple hats
  • A good eye for design
What we offer in return:
  • 💰 Generous, transparent compensation and employee-friendly equity in PostHog
  • 🌴 Unlimited time off with a 25 day minimum (in 2021 the team on average took 32 days off)
  • 🏥 Private medical insurance, including dental and vision (US and UK only)
  • 👵 👴 Pension/401k contributions (4% matching)
  • 🍼 Generous parental, bereavement and child loss leave
  • 📕 Training budget and free books
  • ☕ $200/month budget towards co-working or café working and $250/month for team socials
