We are looking for talented people to join our team building core, impactful, and empowering technology for Battlefield! We believe that to provide the best possible experience for our players we need the best tools possible! You will join the Battlefield Online Services group consisting of small teams that collaborate together to create solutions for our games, using modern technologies and frameworks deployed to cloud-based infrastructure. You will integrate with multiple existing systems; some developed here at DICE, some developed externally. This will require working with a lot of different teams within EA and DICE over different time zones.

The Role

We're looking for a full stack engineer and tech lead for one of our teams. You will design, implement, and maintain internal web-based tools that will be used by our Live team to engage with millions of our players across the globe, changing the gameplay experience, progression, in-game store, matchmaking and many other aspects of our games.

As a lead you will help guide discussions and decisions in the team and collaborate with partners and other teams. You collaborate a lot with our other tech leads, development directors and the product owner and technical director for Online, working on both technical challenges and strategic plans for the future.

The engineers in your team will report to you and you will be responsible for their personal development, making sure that they get what they need to grow and be successful, and performance management. You will report to the Online Technical Director.

 

Responsibilities

  • Work in an agile engineering team writing testable, maintainable and scalable code in both our frontend and backend.

  • Lead technical architecture discussions and help guide technical decisions within the team.

  • As part of the team, clarify technical requirements, apply a broad range of design approaches and collaborate with partners to evolve our tools to support an even broader set of game features. You will get relevant feedback from partners and users and create a technical vision and roadmap for the team.

  • Review code of other team members and provide constructive direction.

  • Mentor and lead developers by encouraging curiosity and deep technical understanding.

  • People management of the engineers in your team, career, feedback, mentoring and support.

Requirements

  • 10+ years of experience working on web projects applying modern web development best practices, from UI in the front-end to micro-services and cloud services in the back end.

  • Experience in JavaScript, including an understanding of concepts like closures, asynchronous programming, and dependency injection patterns.

  • Write understandable, testable (unit & integration testing) code with an eye towards maintainability.

  • Experience in a similar lead role and mentoring engineers, communicating with partners and taking part in strategic discussions and decisions.

Nice to have

  • Experience with TypeScript, React, MobX, or other common frameworks.

  • Experience with Scala, Java, or other JVM language.

  • Experience with Kubernetes or other container-orchestration systems.

  • Experience with cloud services.

  • Contributions to Open-Source projects.

  • Previous experience in people management.
