Want to help people get fit ๐Ÿ’ช๐Ÿผ๐Ÿ’ช๐Ÿพ๐Ÿ’ช๐Ÿป๐Ÿ’ช๐Ÿฟ๐Ÿ’ช๐Ÿฝ by doing good ๐Ÿ˜‡๐Ÿ˜‡๐Ÿ˜‡?

GoodGym is a charity that combines exercise with volunteering. Our members run ๐Ÿƒ๐Ÿพโ€โ™€๏ธ, walk๐Ÿšถ๐Ÿผ, or cycle ๐Ÿšด๐Ÿฝโ€โ™€๏ธ to support people and organisations in their local community. Our web platform helps coordinate all this. Weโ€™re now looking for an experienced senior or mid-level React developer to take it to the next level.

The existing codebase, a Rails app, has been around for a while, but weโ€™re now in the process of porting it over to a Typescript/React app that will sit in front of the Rails app and interact with it through a GraphQL endpoint.

Weโ€™re looking for people who are great at Javascript (or even better, Typescript). Experience with GraphQL is a plus. We want to make the GoodGym website as beautiful, user friendly, and effective as possible, so if you have a strong product, UX, and/or design mindset that would be ๐Ÿง‘๐Ÿพโ€๐Ÿณ๐Ÿ‘Œ๐Ÿพ. Experience with Ruby and Rails, or a willingness to learn, would be great - our tech team is small so the ability to cover both ends of the dev spectrum would be handy. You donโ€™t need to tick every one of these boxes: if there are areas where youโ€™d like to develop your skills, weโ€™ll support you in doing so.

Since the pandemic hit weโ€™ve adopted a hybrid and remote work environment - if you enjoy working from an office and live in London, we have an office in Holborn that you're very welcome at.

Itโ€™s been a journey going from a colocated to hybrid team but we think weโ€™ve done a pretty good job. We work hard to keep video meetings useful and interesting and to find ways to socialise and have fun ๐Ÿฅณ. Not all of these involve staring at a screen, either: we set ourselves challenges to get outdoors or cook healthy meals and then share the results ๐Ÿฅ—. We know itโ€™s important to find time to step away from your computer and encourage you to do so.

And finally: we take diversity seriously. Our commitment to it is baked into our business plan, and we report regularly on our progress to our board of trustees. So we particularly encourage applications from groups underrepresented in tech!

To apply, please fill out this application form. Weโ€™re looking forward to hearing from you ๐Ÿ˜Š.
