Are you looking to work with the likes of Apple, NBC News and The Atlantic, at a fast-moving, exciting startup?

We’re FlatPlan, a small, passionate, fully-remote team that help media companies attract and retain loyal readers.

Right now our software centres around Apple News - an app preloaded on all Apple devices, and we’ve had lots of success. We’re responsible for all Apple News content from the likes ITV News, The Atlantic and 90min, we deliver wide-reaching, impactful stories for NBC News and we’re proud to have been accepted as an Apple Preferred Partner.

But we have much bigger plans – to transform how news media reaches the right people at the right time – and central to those plans is an accomplished front end developer.

Here's where you come in

We’re looking for a talented developer to work with our team to deliver impeccable article templates for Apple News and the React app we will use for onboarding clients in the future.

You’ll be an experienced, proactive person who cares about attention to detail. We’re based mostly in London and Brighton, but we’re fully remote and we’re open to you working from anywhere in a similar time zone.

How we’re setup

We build primarily with Javascript, using React and Node.JS as our primary stack as well as jQuery for DOM processing external websites. We also use a JSON format called Apple News Format for Apple News delivery, which we will provide training on if you are not familiar with this format. We’re always open to innovation and opinions on the tooling, frameworks and stacks that future products should utilise and you’ll be supported by a team with a good understanding of our current product and great ideas for the future.

Must haves

  • Commercial experience as a developer (5+ years preferably)
  • Experience with React and relevant tooling such as Webpack, Enzyme, Redux, and Flux
  • Experience and good knowledge of jQuery, DOM Manipulation
  • Good experience with modern CSS and HTML5
  • Good understanding of git workflows and package management
  • Heroku deployment and configuration

Nice to haves

  • Apple News API/Apple News Format experience
  • AWS (S3/CloudFront in particular)
  • CSS & CSS Preprocessors

Other stuff

What we do makes a huge difference to our clients – we help them reach millions of readers every day – your work will be noticed and appreciated both inside and outside of the company.

As an important part of a small, friendly team you will learn heaps, share an exciting journey and will be actively encouraged to explore technologies and ideas that interest you.
