Job Description

The Cloud Applications team at Guidewire is searching for a smart, proactive, and results-oriented Software Engineer to build sophisticated solutions for the property & casualty insurance industry's complex business domain and make our industry-leading products even better. The product development team is looking for an enthusiastic engineer who is passionate about building high-quality software with a phenomenal team and improving the customer experience for millions of people who use our products every day.

The successful candidate will work on the entire technology stack, from the core persistence layer through to the Web Application front ends.

Our teams are lean, empowered, and collaborative. You must be a self-starter and able to perform with minimal direction while working alongside intelligent colleagues who've checked their egos at the door in a team environment, communicating optimally with everyone. We've built a strong culture, and we're looking for engineers who can help us maintain it.

Note: This position can be 100% remote for a Canada-based applicant now and also post-pandemic.

Successful Software Engineers At Guidewire Typically Have

1. Enjoy working collaboratively in an empowered, small, cross-functional team
2. Experience working in an agile and fast paced development environment (e.g., TDD, BDD, Agile, pair programming, etc.)
3. A passion for code quality proven by thorough testing
4. A desire to be hands-on in designing and writing code
5. Curiosity and internal motivation to constantly improve
6. Ability to learn quickly in a dynamic environment
7. Excellent communication skills, comfort level to speak their mind and defend ideas based on merit, yet humility and hunger to learn from others

Key Qualifications Include Experience With

1. Strong experience in Core Java and solid understanding of JavaScript / HTML5 / CSS.
2. Experience with a market leading client-side framework (e.g. React, Angular) is plus.
3. Familiarity with CI/CD pipeline, Unit & Integration Testing
4. Knowledge of design patterns and best coding practices.
5. Strong command of Object-Oriented Design principles
6. Experience building secure software and familiarity with of web security best-practices
7. Experience working with Open-Source frameworks (e.g. Spring, Hibernate, jBPM, others)
8. Understanding of relational database persistence (e.g. MySQL, Oracle). Familiarity with NoSQL databases (e.g. MongoDB, CouchDB) is a plus
9. Familiarity and experience with Agile development practices
10. Experience with REST or gRPC based APIs
11. Experience with Cloud Services (e.g. AWS/GCP/Azure)
12. A typical candidate has a Computer Science degree or equivalent.
