About Flair

We are a racial equity technology company helping organisations measure their progress towards building racially equitable cultures.

Launched in September 2020 in response to George Floyd’s murder, Flair is considered one of the UK’s hottest tech startups.

Having recently secured $1.8m of seed funding led by Hoxton Ventures, it’s an incredibly exciting time to be part of this fast growing and mission-driven business. In a few short months, our team has grown from 7 to 22, and we will continue to grow as the business expands into America later this year.

Reporting into the Tech Lead, you will join a growing team of full stack engineers who are heavily involved in the development of Flair's core product. You will play a key role in creating new product lines from our 2022 tech roadmap and have the chance to work on meaningful projects as Flair addresses one of the most important societal topics of our time.

The position is fully remote, with monthly team meet ups in London. We know that remote work can feel isolating at times so we offer our employees Co-working memberships and plenty of internal collaboration opportunities.

Flair is unable to offer sponsorship at this time and we welcome applications from people who have the right to work in the UK.

As a Senior Software Engineer, your main objectives will include:

  • Participating in all aspects of agile software development including design, implementation, testing and deployment
  • Collaborate effectively with other developers within the Flair team
  • Engage in product delivery, product development and tech support
  • Play a pivotal role in the development of Flair’s future product lines, such as  evolving Flair’s racial equity platform and e-learning offering

It would be great if you have experience with the following technologies:

  • Backend (data processing): Python (Pandas, SciPy/NumPy, PySpark)
  • Backend (APIs): Python (FastAPI, SQLAlchemy), TypeScript, Express
  • Web Frontend: TypeScript (Angular)
  • Data Visualisation: amCharts
  • Database: Postgres
  • Infrastructure: AWS, Terraform

Your Ideal Skillset

  • A self-starter with the ability to plan and execute strategies from start to finish, with little guidance
  • Ability to clearly communicate technical issues in plain language to internal and external stakeholders who don't have a technical background
  • A bias towards action and rapid experimentation when faced with complex decisions
  • Ability to collaborate well within a team
  • High levels of emotional intelligence
  • Strong relationship management skills
  • Excellent attention to detail

Your Ideal Experience and Knowledge

  • Extensive commercial experience as a full stack Software Engineer
  • Experience working in an agile environment (we use Scrum)
  • Experience building out new products from concept to launch
  • A good understanding of the SOLID design principles
  • Experience writing “Clean Code”

As a remote company, we look for excellent communication skills, both written and verbal. We give our employees plenty of freedom in their role and expect them to manage their time wisely. As a startup, agility and a flexible mindset are essential, as is being resilient and responding well to setbacks.

What you’ll get:

  • £60,000-£70,000

  • Equity via employee option scheme (after successful probationary period)

  • MacBook Pro

  • 26 days holiday per year (excluding bank holidays)

  • Paid Birthday leave

  • Access to a Co-working space

  • Private Health Insurance

  • Remote working with monthly team meet ups

Our Culture & Values

As a team, we pride ourselves on 6 company values:

  • Be Yourself - We welcome diversity in all its forms and want people to feel no pressure to conform.

  • Be Healthy - We value your mental and physical health. In our view, nothing is more important.

  • Be a Continuous Learner - We look for people who are open to learning new things each and every day.

  • Be Mission-Driven - We only want to hire people who believe that a world where all ethnicities can thrive is a world worth fighting for.

  • Be Transparent - We have decided to build a remote company, so hiring great communicators is paramount.

  • Be Empathetic - We value people who can see the world from others' point of view.

At Flair, we celebrate diversity and inclusion. We strive for a work environment in which all individuals are treated fairly and respectfully, have equal access to opportunities, and can contribute fully to the organisation's success. Even if you don’t tick all of the essential requirements but think that you have what it takes to succeed in this fast paced and exciting industry, we would still love to hear from you.
