Fika is a Mental Fitness tech start-up founded to fill a gap in our education and training system, where mental health literacy and mental fitness skills development ought to exist. 

When we think about mental health training, most of us will naturally think of awareness training. But what if there was training we could all do that could prevent mental health from declining in the first place? How could that change the way we think - and talk - about mental health? That’s where Fika comes in. 

We work with businesses across the corporate, healthcare and education sectors and together we are reducing the negative stigma associated with mental health and instead celebrating Mental Fitness. Created by an expert team with proven psychological impact. Fika courses help individuals to develop 7 skills of Mental Fitness, to enable them to perform at their best, thrive through challenges and have greater life satisfaction whilst preventing the decline of mental health.

The role

This exciting new role requires a full stack javascript engineer to work across the range of Fika products. Our stack includes a cloud hosted nodejs GCP/Firebase backend infrastructure, a mobile app written in `react-native`, and web apps/websites written in react/next/gatsby.

The successful candidate will be joining a small and committed team of agile engineers who care about delivering high quality products.

The business is scaling up which means there are lots of exciting opportunities for growth and technical ownership.

As a key part of the engineering team, you will work closely with other engineers, product, design and client facing members of the team. Joining the Fika team brings you into a company culture which thrives on passion, transparency and optimism. You will interact regularly with all, including the Founders, to enable the evolution and the scaling of the Fika SaaS and mobile platform.

Responsibilities 

• Working with the Head of Engineering, Product and Design to make good tech choices to support product growth
• Work with product to refine the vision and influence tech roadmap
• Code quality; responsible for creation of integration and e2e tests to ensure production quality
• Assessing feasibility and providing estimates on different candidate solutions at a micro and macro level
• Contributions to an Agile team, and working practices in order to maximise outcomes and ensure scalable velocity

Person specification

• A passion for psychology and mental fitness
• A-can do attitude and positive team player, we are a team of doers. 
• Demonstrable excellence in javascript programming and react
• Experience working with full stack javascript
• Good working knowledge of our tech stack, including; React Native, React, Redux, Gatsby, Next, Firebase, Google Cloud Platform, git, ci
• Great interpersonal skills
• Understanding of no-SQL database design
• Experience with working with a big three cloud platform
• Enjoy working closely with others as part of a close-knit team.
