Spoke Marketplace, a Motive Partners Company

Spoke is forming the future of how marketplaces are used by the finance industry, and it requires passionate and creative product-centric engineers to support this effort. We’re looking for a engineers who can design and implement features in our product: Spoke Marketplace.

Our vision is to allow everyone and anyone to gain access to the products and services they need, through any channel. 

We believe that companies will move to have a marketplace business model, where they can offer both their own products and services as well as those of 3rd party providers so that their customers can get the things they need all in one place, in order to maintain customer intimacy. 

To support this transition, we have built a marketplace-as-a-service technology platform that allows anyone to create their own white-label marketplace ecosystem, think of it as the ability to create your own Amazon, TaskRabbit and GoCompare all in one.  

Our goal is to make it as easy as possible for our customers to make, manage and scale their own personalised marketplace(s). And our strategy is to enable existing brands to do this, starting with a focus on financial institutions, particularly banks and the asset management industry.

 Spoke Marketplace is incubated by Motive Partners, a specialist investment firm that focuses on financial technology.

About the Backend Engineer role

 Our Marketplace platform is live, and we currently have around 20 employees in our team including 10 Engineers, based in London, working on new features, incremental improvements and support. Our aim is to double the size of the team in 2022, as a result of our customer growth and we are looking for talented Backend Software Engineers to join us.

• You will create and maintain features that are valuable to customers

• You enjoy helping other engineers across the organisation

• You embrace new challenges and see them as an opportunity to grow and learn

• You have some experience or an interest in learning to develop services using Typescript

• You will contribute to the development and improvement of the security capabilities of Spoke Marketplace

What experience do you need to succeed in this position

• Strong experience in developing large-scale software products

• Solid development experience using JavaScript

• Understanding of server-side development and a RESTful API layer

• You’re T-shaped - having a broad range of technology knowledge and interests with greater depth in some areas

Bonus points for

• Understanding of design and best practices for micro-services and distributed systems

• Experience with event driven systems

• Experience using TypeScript

• Marketplace technology background

• In-depth knowledge of Kubernetes and container orchestration

• Understanding of CI/CD pipelines with GitLab

• Experience with Amazon Web Services

• JS with type safety using TypeScript for backend micro-services code

• Kinesis and Kafka for our data streams

• Postgres/Aurora for our structured persistent data storage

• Elasticsearch for our search based interactions

• GitLab CI to automate our development and deployment

• Lambda for our serverless computing

• API Gateway to manage access to our Microservice APIs

• Kubernetes, Docker, Helm & Istio to operate our platform service runtime environment

• We are a certified AWS Technology Partner and use AWS for most of our Cloud execution architecture
