The MongoDB Documentation Platform team is building the next generation of documentation tooling. We support the work of MongoDB's exceptional technical writers and documentation engineers and craft delightful user experiences for users of MongoDB's documentation.

For this role, we're looking for someone who will enjoy full-stack development, with opportunities to work on our React front-end, refine our AWS-powered infrastructure, and generally pitch in to support whatever projects we're working on.

Our team maintains a reStructuredText toolchain, the MongoDB documentation's front-end, the infrastructure and tooling that docs writers use to preview and publish documentation, and an extension for Visual Studio Code. Our engineers use Node.js and React, Python, and whatever other languages are the right tools for the job. Our infrastructure runs on AWS with the Serverless framework, integrated with Lambda and ECR/ECS, backed by MongoDB Atlas and Realm.

This role can be based out of the New York City office or remotely in North America.

You might be right for this role if you

1. Have at least 3 years of experience working as a developer with some flavor of javascript, preferably with some React experience
2. Have at least 1 year of experience working as a developer within a cloud provider environment (AWS preferred)
3. Are enthusiastic about testing (be it integration, regression, unit, etc.) and excited about opportunities to enhance code quality
4. Are aware of different application deployment and maintenance strategies
5. Communicate well, both verbally and in writing
6. Enjoy collaborating with teammates, product management, and stakeholders
7. Are self-motivated, organized, and have strong time management skills

You'll be on the team responsible for

1. Developing and supporting the open source tooling MongoDB's documentation team uses to write and publish the docs
2. Maintaining the infrastructure that writers use to build, preview, and publish MongoDB documentation sites
3. Crafting delightful user experiences for readers of MongoDB's documentation that help our content teams develop content for our global audience
4. Maintaining and enhancing the Snooty VSCode extension

Success in this role means

1. Within one month, you will understand the high-level architecture of the Documentation Platform and will have completed a few small bug fixes
2. Within three months, you will feel comfortable working in one component of the platform, able to fix bugs, implement small features, and review your teammates' code. You will feel comfortable following our development processes
3. Within six months, you will have a broad understanding of the platform and feel comfortable performing initial debugging for any issue. You will have spec'd out and implemented a new planned feature in your focus area
4. Within 12 months you will be consistently developing new features within one or two areas of the Platform and will have a good idea of "what's next" for the part of the Platform that you are most familiar with
