CSafe is seeking an Associate Director of Software Engineering to join our Software Engineering team at our World Headquarters in Monroe, Ohio. This position will serve as the hands on technical leader of our software engineering team. This is a player coach position. Roughly half your week will be spent writing, reviewing, and architecting production software, and the other half will be spent leading engineers, setting technical direction, and driving delivery. You will partner with Product, Digital Engineering, IT, and business stakeholders to convert priorities into working software, and you will raise the engineering bar through code review, architectural standards, and disciplined use of AI development tooling. This position reports to the Senior Director of Software Engineering.
What You Will Do
- Lead, coach, and develop a team of software engineers, owning hiring, onboarding, goal setting, performance feedback, and career growth
- Stay hands on in the codebase roughly 50% of the time, contributing production C#/.NET services and modern JavaScript front end features alongside the team
- Own technical direction and architecture for assigned platforms, including API design, data access patterns, authentication and authorization, integration approach, and application security
- Drive delivery execution by breaking down initiatives, setting realistic commitments, removing blockers, and holding the team accountable to scope, quality, and dates
- Set and enforce engineering standards through code review, branching and release practices, automated testing, CI/CD, and technical documentation
- Champion AI assisted development across the team, establishing patterns and guardrails that measurably increase throughput without sacrificing code quality or security
- Partner with Product and business stakeholders to translate requirements into technical designs, and communicate tradeoffs, risks, and status in plain language
- Collaborate with Data and Digital Engineering counterparts on shared contracts, integrations, and platform dependencies
- Support the transition of work from external development partners to the internal engineering team, including knowledge transfer, code ownership, and operational readiness
- Own production health for assigned applications, including monitoring, incident response, root cause analysis, and technical debt remediation
- Serve as a senior technical voice in vendor, tooling, and platform decisions across the engineering organization
What You Bring
- Deep, current expertise in C# and .NET, including ASP.NET Core, RESTful and service based architectures, and Entity Framework or comparable data access frameworks
- Strong expertise with modern JavaScript and TypeScript front end frameworks such as Angular, React, or Next.js, including component architecture, state management, and responsive design
- Solid command of SQL and relational database design, including query performance tuning
- Working knowledge of cloud infrastructure and services, preferably Microsoft Azure, including app hosting, identity, messaging, and monitoring
- Proven ability to lead and grow engineers while continuing to contribute code at a senior level
- Experience with CI/CD pipelines, source control workflows, automated testing strategy, and modern DevOps practices
- Practical experience applying AI development tools to real engineering work, with judgment about where they help and where they do not
- Strong architectural judgment, with the ability to balance speed, maintainability, cost, and security in a lean team environment
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, comfortable presenting to executives and translating technical concepts for non technical audiences
- Demonstrated ownership mindset, comfortable operating with limited process and high autonomy
- Experience with mobile application delivery, enterprise integrations such as ERP or CRM systems, IoT or device telemetry data, and regulated or validated software environments, preferred
Education & Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Systems, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience
- 12+ years of professional software engineering experience, with a significant portion in C#/.NET and modern JavaScript front end frameworks
- 3+ years leading engineers, including direct people management responsibility such as performance reviews, hiring, and coaching
- Demonstrated track record of delivering and operating production software at scale in a cloud environment
- Experience with mobile application delivery, enterprise integrations such as ERP or CRM systems, IoT or device telemetry data, and regulated or validated software environments, preferred
- Experience leading distributed or blended internal and external engineering teams, and experience in logistics, life sciences, manufacturing, or another regulated industry, preferred
