You'll be responsible for the architecture, development, testing, and maintenance of our full stack systems, with particular emphasis on building intuitive, well-designed user interfaces. Working closely with founders and team leads, you'll ensure our frontend experiences, APIs, and data pipelines are performant, reliable, and delightful to use as we grow.
What You'll Do
- Design and build responsive, accessible user interfaces using modern frontend frameworks (React or similar)
- Translate designs and product requirements into polished, production-ready UI components, exercising good design judgment along the way
- Build and maintain serverless API services using Python and FastAPI on AWS Lambda
- Design, develop, and optimize database schemas and queries in AWS RDS Aurora PostgreSQL
- Develop and optimize ETL pipelines and data processing workflows as needed
- Build data visualizations and interactive dashboards to help users and internal teams understand complex data
- Monitor, troubleshoot, and improve frontend and backend performance
- Write clean, efficient, well-documented code with appropriate testing coverage
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams (design, product, engineering) to define technical requirements and prioritize work
- Establish best practices for UI architecture, component design, and frontend performance
- Participate in code reviews and mentor other engineers on full stack and frontend best practices
Requirements
- Solid professional experience as a full stack or frontend-leaning software engineer — we're open to mid-level through senior candidates and will calibrate based on technical depth and design judgment shown during the interview process
- Strong production experience with React (or similar) and modern JavaScript/TypeScript
- Strong eye for design — comfortable turning mockups/wireframes into pixel-accurate, responsive UI, and able to make sound design decisions independently
- Solid experience with Python or similar for API development and backend work
- Experience designing and building RESTful APIs
- Working knowledge of relational databases (PostgreSQL or similar)
- Experience with cloud platforms, particularly AWS (Lambda, RDS/Aurora, S3)
- Solid understanding of software engineering fundamentals — data structures, algorithms, system design, maintainability
- Ability to work effectively both independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced startup environment
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to usability, performance, and reliability
Nice to Have
- Experience with data visualization libraries and tools (D3.js, Observable, deck.gl, Recharts, or similar)
- Experience with design systems and component libraries (e.g., Tailwind, shadcn/ui, Storybook)
- Familiarity with Figma or similar design tools, and working directly with designers
- Experience with serverless architectures and event-driven systems
- Familiarity with FastAPI or similar modern Python web frameworks
- Experience with GIS concepts, spatial databases (PostGIS), and mapping technologies (Mapbox, Leaflet)
- Understanding of software security best practices, including authentication and authorization
- Familiarity with monitoring and observability tools (CloudWatch, Datadog, etc.)
Benefits
- Eligible for company equity incentive plan
- Fully remote position
- Unlimited PTO
- Health, vision, and dental insurance
- $100 monthly wellness stipend
- Bi-annual team retreat
- Professional development opportunities
What to Expect in Our Hiring Process
Our hiring process is designed to be thoughtful, efficient, and human. Candidates typically move through a short series of interviews, starting with a 30-minute phone screening, followed by a portfolio/design review and one or two technical conversations, a reference check, and a final interview with our CEO.
We focus on cultural alignment, real-world technical understanding, design judgment, and career goals—not coding puzzles or LeetCode-style tests. We'll be in touch with updates after each stage as promptly as we can. If an offer is extended, the role begins with a 30-day trial period where you'll take ownership of a meaningful project and receive clear, ongoing feedback to ensure mutual fit.
Due to regulatory and operational requirements, we are currently only considering candidates based in the United States.
