<p>STAN is looking for an Engineering Team Lead to lead a small, high-impact full-stack team within our 11-person and growing engineering organization. You&#39;ll report directly to the Director of Engineering and work closely with the product team to ship features that matter.</p> <p>This is a player-coach role. You&#39;ll spend your time writing code alongside your team of 2–3 engineers, leading — running sprints, mentoring, driving architecture decisions, and helping hire the people who will define what this team becomes, and helping to drive the product forward.</p> <p>You&#39;ll have a direct line to engineering leadership and real influence over how we build — including how we adopt and leverage AI in our engineering workflows.</p> <p>This position is based in <strong>North York</strong> and is currently full-time in-office. Want to come along for the ride?</p> <p>STAN is also an award-winning platform, having been recognized by Rogers, FedEx, George Brown College, StartUp Canada, the Waterloo Accelerator Centre, and more!</p> <p>To learn more, feel free to visit us at <a target="_blank" rel="noopener nofollow" href="http://www.stan(.)ai">www.stan(.)ai</a> 🤖</p> <h2 id="tasks">Tasks</h2> <p><strong>Technical Leadership</strong></p> <ul> <li>Own the technical direction for your squad — architecture decisions, code quality standards, and engineering best practices</li> <li>Drive full-stack feature development in Node.js / TypeScript across our web and API layers</li> <li>Set the bar for code review — thorough, constructive, and educational</li> <li>Identify and address technical debt proactively, balancing velocity with long-term maintainability</li> <li>Collaborate with the Director of Engineering on broader platform and architecture decisions</li> </ul> <p><strong>People Leadership</strong></p> <ul> <li>Lead, mentor, and grow a team of 2–3 full-stack engineers</li> <li>Run sprint planning, standups, and retrospectives — keep the team focused and unblocked</li> <li>Conduct regular 1:1s and provide meaningful feedback that helps your engineers level up</li> <li>Participate actively in hiring — sourcing, interviewing, and closing strong engineering talent</li> <li>Foster a culture of psychological safety, ownership, and continuous improvement</li> </ul> <p><strong>Product &amp; Innovation</strong></p> <ul> <li>Partner closely with product and design to translate requirements into well-scoped technical work</li> <li>Push back on scope when needed — you&#39;re a voice for engineering feasibility and quality</li> <li>Bring ideas to the table, not just execution — we want leaders who think about the product, not just the ticket queue</li> <li>Contribute to roadmap conversations and help identify opportunities for technical innovation</li> </ul> <p><strong>AI-Driven Engineering</strong></p> <ul> <li>Champion AI tooling adoption within your team — Claude Code</li> <li>Drive a culture where AI accelerates your team&#39;s output: code generation, test writing, documentation, code review</li> <li>Stay current on the AI tooling landscape and bring recommendations to engineering leadership</li> <li>Collaborate with the broader team on integrating LLM capabilities into the product itself</li> </ul> <p><strong>Process &amp; Delivery</strong></p> <ul> <li>Own your team&#39;s delivery — estimates, commitments, and follow-through</li> <li>Surface risks early and communicate blockers clearly to engineering leadership</li> <li>Help define and refine engineering processes as the team scales</li> <li>Contribute to on-call and incident response practices</li> </ul> <h2 id="requirements">Requirements</h2> <p><strong>Must Have:</strong></p> <ul> <li>5+ years of software engineering experience, with at least 1–2 years in a tech lead or senior lead capacity</li> <li>Strong full-stack engineering skills — Node.js and TypeScript on both frontend and backend</li> <li>Experience leading or mentoring engineers, even informally</li> <li>Track record of owning features end to end — from architecture through to production</li> <li>Strong communicator — you can explain technical decisions to both engineers and non-engineers</li> <li>Comfortable in a fast-moving startup environment where priorities can shift</li> </ul> <p><strong>Nice to Have:</strong></p> <ul> <li>Experience building AI-powered features or integrating LLMs into production applications</li> <li>Hands-on experience with AI developer tools (Claude Code, Copilot, Cursor, or similar)</li> <li>Experience with property management, real estate, or adjacent B2B SaaS</li> <li>Familiarity with modern cloud infrastructure (AWS preferred)</li> <li>Experience participating in hiring — interviews, take-homes, calibration</li> </ul> <h2 id="benefits">Benefits</h2> <ul> <li>Competitive salary</li> <li>Comprehensive health, dental, and specialist benefits.</li> <li>Company Macbook.</li> <li>Free parking and shuttle service to the office.</li> <li>Company events, in-office restaurant, and building-wide perks.</li> <li>Unlimited ping pong and espresso!</li> </ul> <p>If you&#39;re passionate about AI and ready to disrupt a massive industry, we want to talk to you!</p>
