Front End Engineer (Consultant, Engineering & Technical Services)

We are seeking a Front End Engineer as part of our Consultant, Engineering & Technical Services career path to build accessible, user-focused web applications that serve diverse communities. This role contributes to both frontend and backend development, working with cross-functional teams to design and enhance modern digital services using Ruby on Rails, JavaScript, and frameworks like Svelte, Vue, or Ember. You will help establish greenfield applications and capabilities from the ground up, ensuring they meet the highest standards for accessibility and user experience. This position is primarily remote, with occasional travel or onsite meetings based on business needs. 


At Fearless, this Consultant collaborates with cross-functional teams to deliver high-quality, secure, and maintainable systems across all stages of the software and data lifecycle. This role is instrumental in delivering secure, efficient, and scalable solutions that directly impact the success of projects, teams, and organizational goals. This role will possess and/or develop the skills to be able to span the domains of software development, data engineering, infrastructure automation, information assurance, and AI/ML integration at a practical application level of proficiency . This Consultant role will work on projects that allow them to contribute across the entire technology stack—software, infrastructure, data, AI, and security—to ensure quality, speed, and innovation in delivery. 

 

Your Responsibilities in this Role: 

● Develop and maintain web applications using Ruby on Rails and modern frontend technologies. 

● Build responsive, accessible, and user-friendly interfaces using HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. 

● Develop frontend features using modern JavaScript frameworks such as Svelte, Vue, or Ember. 

Design and implement new features and capabilities from the ground up in greenfield application development environments. 

● Collaborate with Product Managers, Designers, and Engineers to implement new functionality aligned to user needs. 

● Participate in code reviews and contribute to maintaining high-quality, maintainable code. 

● Conduct accessibility audits and identify opportunities to improve user experience across applications. 

● Remediate accessibility issues and implement solutions that meet accessibility standards. 

● Contribute to processes and development practices that prevent accessibility issues from recurring

Work Experience

PROJECT SKILL AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

● Minimum of 2 years of experience developing applications with Ruby on Rails. 

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field, or equivalent work experience. 

● Strong frontend development experience using modern HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. 

● Strong foundation in vanilla JavaScript. 

● Experience with at least one modern JavaScript framework such as Svelte, Vue, or Ember. 

Experience developing new applications or capabilities in a greenfield environment. 

● Experience building responsive, accessible web applications. 

● Experience conducting accessibility audits and remediating accessibility issues. 

● Understanding of accessibility standards and best practices. 

● Experience collaborating in an Agile software development environment. 


Preferred Experience 

● Familiarity with automated accessibility testing tools. 

● Experience building reusable UI components or design systems. 

● Experience writing automated frontend tests. 

● Experience supporting government, healthcare, civic technology, or other regulated industries.

The salary range for this position is:

Minimum Salary: $96,132

Salary Midpoint: $124,971

Maximum Salary: $162,462

Hiring Range for Role: $96,132 - 126,000

*This position is eligible for a discretionary bonus based on individual and company performance criteria.
