About this opportunity

We’re hiring a mid-level fullstack engineer to own customer-facing features across our Django backend and React/TypeScript web apps, from implementation through production. You’ll partner with product, design, data and analytics, and other engineers to ship reliable, maintainable product experiences and the services that support them. This is a product engineering role with shared responsibility for deployment, observability, and production support.

This role reports to our Sr. Engineering Manager.

What you'll do

  • Ship customer-facing features end-to-end across our Django backend and React/TypeScript web apps, including schema and API work, UI development, automated tests, and rollout
  • Partner with product, design, data science, and engineering to scope work, make pragmatic technical tradeoffs, and shape requirements when needed
  • Improve service reliability and delivery through instrumentation, monitoring, and CI/CD automation
  • Contribute to the systems and tooling used to deploy and operate your services, using Unix and scripting tools to troubleshoot issues and automate routine work
  • Review code and contribute to technical design discussions, with a focus on maintainability, performance, and reliability
  • Use AI coding tools as a regular part of your workflow and contribute to Zumper’s homegrown AI agent platform
  • Participate in the team’s on-call rotation, help triage and resolve production incidents, and contribute to postmortems and follow-up improvements

What You'll Work With

  • Backend: Python, Django, SQLAlchemy, PostgreSQL, REST/JSON APIs serving web and native clients
  • Frontend: React, Redux, TypeScript, server-side rendering
  • Mobile: Kotlin with Jetpack Compose, Swift with SwiftUI
  • Services & platform: Node.js services, AWS including EC2, S3, SQS, Fastly, Nomad, and Grafana
  • Workflow: Git, CI/CD, code review, and automated testing

Who you are

  • 3+ years of professional fullstack engineering experience shipping production applications, including APIs built with Python, Django, and PostgreSQL and user interfaces built with React and TypeScript
  • Fluency with Git, automated testing, and CI/CD, including the ability to investigate failed builds or deployments and contribute to reliable deployment workflows
  • Practical experience supporting cloud-hosted production services, preferably in AWS, with comfort using Unix/Linux and Python, Bash, or another scripting language to troubleshoot systems and automate routine work
  • Experience with configuration management and infrastructure tooling, such as SaltStack or another configuration management system, and with one or more HashiCorp tools, including Terraform, Consul, Nomad, or Vault
  • Working knowledge of HTTP, DNS, load balancing, CDNs, and reverse proxies, with hands-on experience in technologies such as AWS ELB/ALB, Nginx, HAProxy, or CloudFront
  • Experience using logs, metrics, dashboards, and alerts to understand service health, plus participation in an on-call rotation or equivalent production-support responsibility
  • Regular hands-on use of AI coding tools such as Claude Code, Cursor, Copilot, or equivalent as part of your development workflow

Bonus Skills

  • Deeper platform experience with AWS, containers or orchestration, infrastructure-as-code, or configuration-management tooling
  • Experience with marketplace, two-sided, or proptech products, or with Node.js services
