THE OPPORTUNITY
Western Forest Products is seeking a GIS Developer Student to join our Corporate Timberlands Office in Campbell River, BC for Summer 2027.
What You’ll Do: In this role, you will work closely with the Information Technology (IT) and GIS teams to support the development, configuration, and continuous improvement of enterprise GIS solutions. This role offers an exciting opportunity to gain hands-on experience with ArcGIS Enterprise, web application development, GIS administration, and business process improvement initiatives. The position may be offered as either a 4-month term for students returning to school or an 8-month term for recent graduates, depending on candidate availability and business requirements.

What We Offer:
- Pay from $4,600 - $5,100 per month based on skill level, qualifications, and experience
- 4% Vacation pay in lieu

Work Environment: This position is to be performed in person at our Campbell River office.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Assist with the administration, configuration, optimization, and support of an ArcGIS Enterprise environment.
- Create and support image and map services through performance monitoring, tuning, and usage analysis.
- Assist in the development and enhancement of GIS applications using ArcGIS Enterprise technologies.
- Create and maintain web maps, feature services, dashboards, and other GIS resources.
- Participate in testing, troubleshooting, and quality assurance activities for GIS solutions.
- Prepare technical documentation, standard operating procedures, and user support materials.
- Collaborate with IT and GIS teams to identify opportunities and implement improvements to enterprise GIS systems and business processes.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience
- Currently enrolled in or recently graduated from a post-secondary program in GIS, Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related discipline.
- Previous GIS, software development, or co-op work term experience is considered an asset but is not required.
Skills, Knowledge and Required Competencies
- Familiarity with ESRI products such as ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Online, or ArcGIS Enterprise.
- Experience through coursework, projects, or work terms creating web maps, dashboards, or GIS applications.
- Basic understanding of GIS application development concepts and enterprise GIS environments.
- Familiarity with relational database concepts; experience with Oracle or other relational databases is an asset.
- Familiarity with Python, JavaScript, SQL, or other programming languages through coursework or projects is considered an asset.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Positive attitude and ability to thrive in a collaborative team environment.
