About Us
Since 1935, Ferguson Electric has been providing the Western New York region with exceptional electrical repair and construction services. We have the experience and skill to be our customer’s “connection to quality.” Our professional team has handled a majority of the construction and service contracts for the commercial and industrial facilities in the area. We have the skill, experience, and the dedication to properly address all electrical repair and construction needs.
About the Role
Ferguson Electric’s NetSuite Developer designs, develops, and engineers solutions on the Oracle NetSuite platform that support project management, financials, job costing, procurement, inventory, billing, and operational reporting. This is a hands-on engineering role. The developer owns the technical design of customizations, writes production SuiteScript, builds workflows and data structures, and delivers integrations that connect NetSuite to the rest of the business.
The ideal candidate partners with project managers, accounting, pre-construction, operations, and leadership to turn business requirements into scalable, maintainable NetSuite solutions tailored to commercial electrical contracting. The role offers the chance to engineer core systems that field crews and office staff rely on every day, and to raise the quality of how those systems are designed, deployed, and supported.
What You Will Do
NetSuite Design and Engineering
• Design NetSuite solutions end to end, including custom records, forms, fields, roles, saved searches, and data model decisions that fit project-based electrical contracting workflows.
• Engineer customizations with SuiteScript 2.x (User Event, Client, Scheduled, Map/Reduce, Suitelet, RESTlet, and Portlet scripts), applying object-oriented design, modular structure, and governance-aware patterns.
• Build and maintain automated processes with SuiteFlow and SuiteBuilder, and package, version, and deploy customizations through the SuiteCloud Development Framework (SDF).
• Design integrations between NetSuite and related systems, including CRM, project management, and accounting tools, using RESTlets, REST and SOAP web services, and integration platforms.
• Establish engineering standards for the NetSuite environment, including naming conventions, script architecture, error handling, logging, code review, and release practices.
Development and Customization
• Develop and enhance NetSuite functionality for job costing, project tracking, procurement, inventory, billing, revenue, and financial close processes.
• Create Suitelets, RESTlets, and custom portlets that give project teams and management reliable, role-appropriate access to operational data.
• Build reports, saved searches, workbooks, and dashboards that improve visibility into project performance, labor, materials, and billing.
• Where required, support lightweight connections to Salesforce or other CRM tools so customer and project data stays consistent with NetSuite as the system of record for ERP.
Technical Support and Optimization
• Troubleshoot and resolve defects, script governance and performance issues, integration failures, and user-reported problems in the NetSuite environment.
• Optimize existing scripts, workflows, searches, and roles to improve usability, speed, and data quality for electrical project teams and management.
• Protect data integrity and security across the platform, including role design, permissions, audit trails, and compliance with internal controls and applicable requirements.
Collaboration and Requirements
• Work with stakeholders in project management, accounting, pre-construction, operations, and leadership to gather requirements and translate them into technical designs.
• Recommend how NetSuite can reduce manual work and improve operational efficiency in the electrical contracting business.
• Document technical specifications, solution designs, deployment notes, and user guides for developed solutions.
Innovation and Continuous Improvement
• Stay current on NetSuite releases, SuiteCloud capabilities, and platform best practices, and recommend features worth adopting.
• Propose and implement automation that reduces manual tasks for field crews and office staff.
• Participate in code reviews and contribute to a culture of sound engineering and continuous improvement.
