Job Summary:
The Software Engineer develops, enhances, and supports Windows Services, APIs, and other applications while maintaining architectural and coding standards. Working directly with business users and stakeholders, the Software Engineer translates needs into testable solutions, uses AI tools to accelerate delivery, and validates results for accuracy, security, and quality. This role requires effective teamwork, sound judgment, and the ability to manage multiple priorities from discovery through production.
Essential Job Functions:
- Develop services and applications
- Maintain and improve existing systems
- Engage directly with business users and stakeholders to discover needs, clarify ambiguity, and translate business context into explicit, testable requirements and acceptance criteria.
- Use AI tools as a co-author and AI coding agents as development leverage to understand codebases, structure specifications, generate or modify code, transform data, and accelerate delivery.
- Provide clear context and direction to AI tools, supervise and integrate their output, and independently identify and correct inaccurate, insecure, or incomplete results.
- Own a solution or assigned product slice end to end, including discovery, sequencing, implementation, testing, release readiness, and production verification.
- Apply product judgment to define outcomes, sequence work from MVP to scale, explain tradeoffs, and create intuitive workflows for business users.
- Adhere to Continuous Integration and Continuous Delivery best practices
- Escalate architecture, security, scope, and approval decisions to the appropriate senior lead when they exceed assigned authority.
- Self-manage priorities, dependencies, blockers, and non-negotiable deadlines without relaxing correctness or security.
- Must be willing to be on-call support for all Enterprise Technology-developed applications on a rotating schedule
- Must be able to work closely with business users and quickly adapt to their software needs
- Must have reliable, dependable, and predictable attendance
Basic Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Software Engineering, Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field is preferred, but commensurate experience is acceptable in lieu of such a degree
- 2+ years of experience with .NET (ideally C#)
- Experience integrating and evaluating agentic AI capabilities within development workflows and solutions
- Experience directing AI coding tools or agents by providing structured context, reviewing and testing output, and identifying inaccurate, insecure, or incomplete results
- Demonstrated hands-on use of AI tools in professional work, independent projects, prototypes, or home projects
- Self-motivated, team-player
- Demonstrated ability to independently own a solution or defined product slice from discovery through production validation
- Excellent oral and written skills
- Ability to engage directly with business users and stakeholders, clarify ambiguous needs, and translate business context into clear, testable requirements and acceptance criteria
- Familiarity with Transaction-SQL (T-SQL)
- Ability to use SQL, application data, logs, and other diagnostics to investigate issues and verify solution correctness
- Experience with .NET Core
- Working knowledge of modern JavaScript-based web frameworks and related technologies (e.g., TypeScript, WebApi)
- Good knowledge of programming principles and common patterns
- Ability to read and reason about unfamiliar codebases and build small prototypes to test assumptions
- Ability to troubleshoot dense, complicated situations
- Adherence to best-practices and standards
- Sound judgment regarding when to escalate architecture, security, scope, or approval decisions to senior technical or product leaders
- Proficiency with git version control
- Good documentation habits
- Experience with Continuous Integration / Continuous Delivery pipelines
- Experience running and hosting production-ready applications, not merely building containers
- Experience writing automated unit and integration tests
- Experience personally validating acceptance criteria, system behavior, and production readiness rather than treating quality as a downstream responsibility
- Security awareness and secure coding practices
Preferred Requirements:
- Familiarity with NoSQL databases
- Familiarity with containers and container infrastructures (e.g. Docker, K8s)
- Familiarity with Unix based operating systems
- Basic knowledge of cloud technologies
- Experience re-platforming or modernizing large, business-critical legacy applications — translating existing domain logic and workflows onto modern architectures
- Experience using AI or large language models to understand codebases, write or refactor code, transform data, create test cases, or support database diagnostics.
- Experience with non-trivial SQL, database debugging, system diagnostics, or performance analysis.
- A record of independently shipping side projects, prototypes, internal tools, or other practical solutions outside formally assigned work.
- Experience delivering software in an environment where correctness is non-negotiable because of financial, contractual, regulatory, safety, security, or similarly demanding quality requirements.
