Software Engineer — Core Product
Overview
Join Veras, a fast-growing healthtech startup in Lehi, UT, as a Software Engineer on our Core Product. Work in-office with a small, high-ownership engineering team building the platform that powers workforce management for senior care facilities across the country. You'll work on our largest and most vital product — the one tens of thousands of people use every day — helping it grow, scale, and stay rock-solid.
About Veras
Veras is an early-stage startup backed by NFX (early investors in DoorDash and Lyft) and Spencer Rascoff (Zillow co-founder) building vertical SaaS for long-term care and senior living. The industry is massive — and it's been neglected by technology for decades. Facilities managing thousands of employees still rely on clunky, disconnected systems built by giant generalist companies that don't understand their world. We're changing that.
Building since April 2024, we've already witnessed strong adoption with over 30,000 people across 1,000+ facilities using Veras today for scheduling and workforce management, and we're expanding to become the operating system for long-term care. Our goal is to be the single platform that replaces the patchwork of outdated tools these organizations are stuck with — and bring long-term care into the modern era.
Our values:
- Live Golden — be the example you want to see
- Seek Kaizen — never stop improving
- Be a Founder — take ownership, take risks
- Enjoy the Journey — work hard, play hard, celebrate the ride

What You'll Do
- Build and ship full-stack features across our core product — scheduling, messaging, reporting, credentials, and surveys — the heart of the Veras platform and the product our customers rely on most
- Contribute to platform architecture — navigation, settings, roles and permissions, and the data models and services every product is built on
- Help the platform scale — performance, reliability, and database health as our usage grows from tens of thousands of users to hundreds of thousands
- Own projects end-to-end — from understanding the problem through deployment, monitoring, and iteration
- Collaborate closely with product and design to build things that actually solve real problems for our customers — and push back when there's a better way
- Support the product in production — help investigate issues, harden weak spots, and improve the operational maturity of the systems you build
- Shape product direction alongside the founding team
- Use modern AI development tools to multiply your output — we're all-in on this across the company
What We're Looking For
- 3+ years of software engineering experience with real full-stack range — comfortable across frontend, backend, APIs, and data modeling
- Architectural instincts — you think about how systems hold up at 10x scale, not just whether the feature works today
- Ops and infrastructure experience is a huge bonus — monitoring, performance tuning, database management, incident response, CI/CD. If you like keeping production healthy as much as shipping features, we want to talk
- Scrappy, self-directed, and resourceful — you figure things out, take initiative, and don't wait around to be told what to do
- Fast learner who picks up new tools, domains, and codebases quickly
- Product-minded — you care about the user and the business, not just the code
- Fluent with AI development tools and always finding ways to improve processes with them and for them — this is how we work
- A strong desire to learn and grow — for yourself and for the company. We're early-stage, and every employee is a founder
- Comfortable with ambiguity and able to make good decisions without perfect information
- Strong communicator who works well in a small, collaborative team
- In-person in Lehi, UT — we thrive on face-to-face collaboration
Experience with our stack (TypeScript, React/Remix, Postgres, AWS) is a plus, as is experience with mobile (React Native), third-party integrations, or operational/workforce software. What matters most is strong fundamentals, the ability to learn fast, and the drive to help our most important product scale into the next phase of our growth.
