Position Summary: The Systems Programmer is responsible for developing, maintaining, integrating, and supporting the company’s business systems, applications, databases, and related technology solutions. This position works closely with business leaders, end users, vendors, and the IT team to identify operational needs, improve system functionality, automate processes, troubleshoot technical issues, and ensure systems remain secure, reliable, and aligned with business objectives.

The Systems Programmer supports enterprise resource planning (ERP), manufacturing, financial, reporting, customer service, and other business-critical systems. The role requires strong programming, analytical, documentation, and problem-solving skills, as well as the ability to translate business requirements into effective technical solutions.

 

Essential Functions of the role include: 

  • Develop, modify, test, implement, and maintain software applications, programs, scripts, interfaces, and system integrations.
  • Support and enhance the organization’s ERP, manufacturing, reporting, warehouse, and other business systems.
  • Translate business requirements into technical specifications, program designs, workflows, and system configurations.
  • Develop reports, dashboards, queries, data extracts, and other tools that provide accurate and timely business information.
  • Create and maintain integrations between internal systems, databases, equipment, vendor platforms, and third-party applications.
  • Troubleshoot application, programming, database, interface, performance, and data-related issues.
  • Investigate system errors, identify root causes, implement corrective actions, and document resolutions.
  • Test new programs, enhancements, patches, upgrades, and system configurations before deployment.
  • Perform data validation and reconciliation to maintain the accuracy, completeness, and integrity of business information.
  • Monitor system performance, scheduled jobs, interfaces, automated processes, and error logs.
  • Maintain source code, version history, change-control documentation, technical specifications, system diagrams, and operating procedures.
  • Follow established software development, testing, change-management, cybersecurity, and data-protection practices. 
  • Assist with system upgrades, conversions, implementations, migrations, and disaster-recovery testing.
  • Develop user instructions and technical documentation and provide training or support to end users as needed.
  • Manage assigned projects and programming requests, communicate progress, and meet established deadlines.
  • Evaluate emerging technologies and recommend improvements that increase efficiency, reliability, security, or scalability.
  • Coordinate with software vendors, consultants, and service providers to resolve technical issues and implement enhancements.
  • Provide technical support outside normal business hours when necessary to address urgent or business-critical system issues.
  • Protect confidential employee, customer, financial, and company information.
  • Perform other related duties and responsibilities as assigned.
  • Maintain reliable and predictable attendance.

 Required Qualifications:

  • A high school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information systems, software engineering, or a related field preferred.
  • Three to five years of experience in systems programming, application development, business systems analysis, or a related role, or combination of education and work experience.
  • Experience supporting ERP, manufacturing, or other enterprise business applications is strongly preferred.
  • Experience working in a manufacturing, printing, distribution, or similarly fast-paced operational environment is preferred.
  • Experience working within an established Quality Management System. Previous ISO 9001 or ISO 13485 experience is strongly preferred. 
  • Proficiency in one or more programming or scripting languages, such as SQL, C#, Java, JavaScript, Python, RPG, CL, PowerShell, or similar technologies.
  • Strong knowledge of relational databases, database design, queries, stored procedures, data validation, and reporting.
  • Familiarity with software development lifecycles, testing methodologies, source control, documentation, and change-management practices.
  • Knowledge of ERP systems and associated manufacturing, inventory, purchasing, estimating, order-processing, or shipping, workflows is preferred.
  • Experience with business intelligence, reporting, workflow automation, or data visualization tools is a plus.
  • Strong analytical, programming, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to understand complex business processes and translate them into practical technical solutions.
  • Excellent attention to detail and commitment to data accuracy.
  • Ability to troubleshoot issues methodically and identify root causes.
  • Strong organization, project-management, and time-management skills.
