Director, Design Remote within United States Product & Engineering Full-time Apply for this job Founded in 2018, with employees across the world, The Block is the leading research, analysis, and news brand in the digital asset space. The Block's team is spread across 5 continents and 15+ time zones, covering the global cryptocurrency space 247.  The Block delivers deep insight into how the emerging digital assets sector interacts with traditional finance, technology, governments, and markets. We reach hundreds of thousands of technologists, financial market participants, Fortune 500 professionals, global service providers, policymakers, and more through our main website, dedicated Research Portal, podcast, and events.  As a Director, Design at The Block, you will be responsible for building and leading a team of world class designers charged with crafting highly engaging and accessible user experiences across The Block’s core products. You will build the team, the design process, and help drive product development. The Director will shape and evangelize the user research and testing functions.  You will report to the VP, Product, who will work with you in setting up the initial vision, strategy, direction, and design requirements. You will manage the design team and be seen as the leader of design and brand within the company. You will partner closely with leaders from design, product, sales, editorial, and engineering to build high-quality experiences across several product lines. This role will serve at the heart of The Block’s product development process. The hiring range for this role is $150,000 - $180,000 in base salary, plus equity and benefits. Base salary pay within the provided range will be refined based on candidate’s experience and location. You will:

• Partner closely with leaders from product and engineering to build high-quality experiences at scale across several product lines 
• Collaborate with Sales and Account Management to create frictionless experiences for our paying members 
• Develop and organization structure, hire and attract talent to the team, mentor team members. 
• Build and implement design processes across the company to enact efficiencies in product design 
• Lead and evangelize user research and testing 
• Be obsessed with the competitive landscape and strive to identify gaps between our products and theirs. 
• Push forward the company's branding across all product lines 
• Create a design system across the brands product lines 
• Lead creative direction for both internal and external products. 
• Collaborate with Engineering team to maintain the fidelity of designs in production final code 
• Contribute to the culture of quality, healthy collaboration and leading by example 
• Qualifications:
  • Experience using wireframing tools such (Figma, Adobe XD, Sketch or similar) 
  • Ability to carry out work from concept to production 
  • Management and mentoring experience 
  • Expertisewith user interface design 
  • Expertise in design systems 
  • Familiarity with code that brings digital designs to life (HTML, CSS, Javascript) 
  • Experience in working collaboratively 
  • Experience in branding exercises 
  • Receptive to feedback and critiques 
  • The following are not required, but are nice to have:
    • A strong portfolio of previous Product Design work explaining your contributions 
    • Strong background or education in Product Design 
    • Experience working with front-end coding technologies (HTML, CSS, Javascript) 
    • Experience working with component-based libraries 
    • Experience in product strategy and product thinking 
    • Interest in digital assets, crypto, and blockchain technologies
