Our mission at Danger Farms is to help the world level up by planning and building digital products that have real impact for their users. For that, we believe you need more than just agile delivery, so we combine entrepreneurial strategy with the best that technology has to offer.

The Role

Having refined our business over the last 8 years, we’re now committing to a long-term growth strategy of the company.

Critical to this growth will be a Tech Lead who can advance both our technology offering and our industry standing, allowing us to position ourselves as one of the most forward-thinking companies in the industry.

We want you to:

  • Plan and help deliver numerous web and mobile products across a number of different clients and industries, and own the successful delivery of them
  • Coach and manage the team to get the best out of them
  • Improve the engineering teams approach to planning, estimation and processes
  • Evaluate new technology and make recommendations on technological solutions
  • Report progress at regular intervals internally and externally
  • Help craft the company’s long-term technology strategy, including how and where we can make an impact within the industry
 Us

Danger Farms are a digital innovation studio, helping businesses to create more impactful digital products and services. We believe impactful products need more than just agile delivery, combining entrepreneurial strategy with the best that technology has to offer.

Here’s just some of the languages, frameworks and tools we work with:

  • Client - React.js, React Native, CSS Modules, Webpack, Stylelint, ESLint, Prettify, Cypress E2E testing, Storybook, Design Systems, WebGL, Three.js
  • Services - Kubernetes, Rancher, Docker, Hashicorp Vault, OWasp ZAP, Google Cloud Run, Serverless framework, AWS Lambda, API Gateway (python, golang, node.js), Terraform
  • Web3 - Ethereum, ether.js, Hardhat, Chainlink, OpenSea, NEAR, Rust
  • Patterns/Principles - Test Driven Development, Continuous Delivery, Pair Programming, Business Model Canvas, Lean Startup
 Requirements

We are looking for an enthusiastic and ambitious leader who has at least 6 years experience. You should have had extensive exposure to agile processes and great development practices, and you have a proven history of taking a software project from concept to delivery and beyond. You’ve led a high-performing team before, that has proven itself consistently.

We are looking for someone with an abundance of skill and drive, who is a big thinker and a big builder in equal parts. You:

  • Are a brilliant developer and system architect, comfortable with building complex applications and services on any kind of infrastructure
  • Know a myriad of best practices, and are able to come up with clever solutions to problems easily
  • Are constantly thinking about how software development can be improved, both in terms of code, practices and process
  • Are curious about the business of technology, with an understanding of how products go to market, and what makes some fail and others succeed
  • Can communicate in both the most complex of terms (where technical language can help understanding among techies) and the simplest of terms (when the relatability of an idea to a non-techie is paramount)
  • Are interested in other departments and job roles that make up an organisation, and realise that technology is but one factor in the success of most ventures
  • Have led a team that consistently delivered value to customers by instilling in the team core values like focus, dedication and quality
  • Believe in the value of insight, and will help build a tech and company culture around data-led decisions
 The Offer

You’ll have the chance to lead a young and talented technology department and be involved in critical business decisions that will contribute to the success of the company.

Our perks include:

  • Flexible Work Culture – Remote/Office friendly
    • While we are currently entirely remote, it is our intention to return to at least some level of office presence. We are focused on bettering our UK and London-based team and culture, and so are looking to hire someone who is UK-based.
    • The Working Wanderer - Try working from somewhere else in the world – we’ve had people clock in from California, Hungary, Spain, Israel and Vietnam either side of their holidays!
  • Access to tech conferences and up-skilling. Chance to speak at any conferences you might desire
  • Company computer
  • Salary is on a case-by-case basis dependent on experience. We’ll mention our intentions right away so you aren’t left guessing
  • Great company name to confuse your friends and family with

If you enjoy a challenge, take huge pride in what you deliver, and want to shape a small company’s direction, we would love to hear from you.

 Company Benefits
  • Free Macbook
  • Flexi-working (from anywhere in the world, not just the UK)
  • Group events
  • Have a real say in the company direction
 Interview Process1. Phone/online meet

An initial 15-20 minute pre-interview chat to explore for potential fit, namely your (the candidate's) availability, motivations, expectations, and enthusiasm. The meet will:

  • describe how the process will work from here
  • give an overview of Danger Farms and what we hope for in a Tech Lead
  • look for fundamental core values fit
  • ask what your experience is
  • ask simple, predefined technical questions to probe technologies mentioned in your CV
2. Online technical assessment

You will be given a link to complete a technical exercise within a week, or will complete a live coding exercise. These will assess competencies, knowledge and problem solving skills.

3. Final interview

Consisting of a technical and fit chat.

Technical Chat ~1hr:

  • Overview of technical test and questions on the test
  • ~30 minutes: root cause analysis (RCA) test with screensharing
    • There are intentional issues in the code that should be fixed.
    • The goal is to simulate a real work environment, not to test lexical knowledge. You can ask for help from us.
    • You can google things.
    • You will have 30 minutes, and the goal is not to solve all issues, but for us to see how the candidate goes about working with unknown codebases and fixing bugs.

Fit chat:

The purpose of the fit chat is to determine whether you will fit in the company well.

Open ended questions, assessing:

  • communication and ability to summarise
  • business focus (can pitch effectively)
  • knowledge / experience about:
    • deployment practices
    • agile methodologies
    • testing practices
