Job Summary
The Software Engineer Supervisor is a pivotal leadership role within the Software Development organization, responsible not only for the architectural integrity and performance of core applications, but also for guiding the technical direction of the team. This individual plays a critical role in shaping future product capabilities, driving engineering excellence, and mentoring developers across all experience levels.
This role goes beyond execution and sets the standard. This position leads the evolution of applications, champions scalable integration patterns, and ensures systems align with long term business strategy. As a key technical leader, this role influences cross departmental initiatives, elevates team performance, and proactively identifies opportunities for innovation and modernization across the platform.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Technical Leadership & Vision: Drive the long‑term technical roadmap for core applications and integrations, ensuring architectural decisions support future scalability, maintainability, and business growth.
- Team Mentorship & Development: Provide hands‑on mentorship to Software Engineer I and II team members, fostering a culture of continuous learning, high‑quality code, and collaborative problem‑solving. Lead code reviews, pair programming sessions, and technical workshops.
- System Architecture Ownership: Lead the design, scalability planning, and modernization of enterprise applications. Ensure integrations and system logic align with strategic business objectives and emerging industry standards.
- Integration Strategy & Execution: Architect and oversee complex API integrations and data workflows. Conduct deep‑dive research into third‑party systems and guide the team in implementing reliable, secure, and efficient connectivity patterns.
- Process & Platform Optimization: Identify systemic inefficiencies and champion improvements across CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, deployment workflows, and development processes. Drive initiatives that increase team velocity and reduce operational friction.
- Cross‑Functional Leadership: Serve as the primary technical liaison for Customer Service, Operations, and other business areas. Translate high‑level business needs into actionable technical plans and ensure alignment across teams.
- Full‑Stack Technical Ownership: Oversee the end‑to‑end lifecycle of enterprise applications, including frontend components, backend services, and database performance optimization.
- Project Scoping & Delivery Leadership: Lead the breakdown of complex business initiatives into technical milestones. Provide expert‑level estimation, risk assessment, and delivery planning. Ensure projects are executed with clarity, accountability, and technical excellence.
- Future Scope & Innovation: Proactively identify emerging opportunities for platform expansion, new feature development, and architectural improvements. Drive proof‑of‑concepts, evaluate new technologies, and help shape the future of the product ecosystem.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Required Skills and Abilities
- Tech Stack: Proven experience with HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript (ES6+), and React.
- Backend & Logic: Experience with ColdFusion (willingness to be trained is acceptable) and MySQL.
- API Mastery: Deep understanding of API methodologies (REST, SOAP) and data formats (JSON, XML, CSV).
- Design Patterns: Knowledge of software design and architectural patterns.
- Tooling: Proficiency with Git and project/ticket tracking software (e.g., Jira, Azure DevOps).
- Cloud Awareness: Experience with cloud environments (AWS or Azure) specifically regarding application deployment.
- Problem Solving: Excellent analytical skills with a focus on root-cause analysis rather than just "quick fixes."
- Communication: Ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
- Self-Management: Ability to prioritize tasks in an agile environment and meet tight deadlines.
Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Application Development, or a related field required.
- Minimum of 3–4 years of professional software development experience.
- Technical Minimums:
- JavaScript/React: 3–4 years.
- APIs/Integrations: 3–4 years.
- CSS/Frontend: 3–4 years.
- Database/Backend: 2–3 years.
- AWS Certified Developer Associate or similar development-centric certifications preferred.
Physical Requirements
- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Must be able to lift 25 pounds at times.
